President Roosevelt's birthplace the best block for wine lovers

Yes, you read it right. The birthplace of President Theodore Roosevelt is considered as the best wine block in the city of New York. To be precise, 20th Street between Broadway and Park Avenue South is the block that houses numerous first rate wine-drinking establishments. This is the same street where Roosevelt’s childhood home is located. No wonder, it is the most frequented place by wine drinkers and the Roosevelt would be delighted to know this, as he himself was a wine drinker.
La Pizza Fresca, which is perhaps the only place in New York where one can combine a Pizza with a single vineyard Gaja Barbararesco, is located at No. 31. The Pizza Fresca wine list is long enough to keep you wondering what to order for a long time and feature finest names like Gaja. Budget worriers need not be disappointed as they do have options under $75 as well. Right next to Pizza Fresca is the Moore Brothers wine shop, located at No. 33. It boasts of a fine selection of wines personally sourced from all over the world, so you can expect brands that you won’t be able to find at other shops in the city. Close to Moore Brothers at No. 43 is the Veritas, a restaurant owned by Park B. Smith. It is considered one of the best wine cellars, not only in New York City but also in the entire U.S.A. Here one can find a huge variety of four-figure bottles like grand cru Burgundy and Bordeaux along with cheaper options like Pinot Blanc and 2010 Fleurie. You may even find some finest wines at Gramercy Tavern, located at No. 42, along with the chance to savor the dishes made by Chef Michael Anthony. Besides, there are some other wine shops in the 20th Street that offer amazing deals on certain days of the week, so it’s worth checking. |
