Hunger Games setting records in US opening weekend

A teenage girl is fighting to survive a life-and-death game show in dystopian world; this is what ‘Hunger Games’ movie is all about. This sci-fi action film broke all previous records as soon as it was released on Sunday and is termed as the first blockbuster movie of the year 2012. The movie was able to make collection of $155 million ticket sales in this weekend, as per the figures published by box office tracker Exhibitor Relations. It outdid the previous blockbuster movie Alice in Wonderland directed by Tim Burton starring Johnny Depp, which managed to earn in $116.1 million in 2010. This movie is has become a great success and has bested movies like Twilight.
The fictional land called Penema, which emerged from the ashes of ruined North America, is the place where movie is set in. Jennifer Lawrence, the protagonist of the story, is a 16-year-old girl who was made to fight in a Roman circus-style televised blood sport popular as ‘The Hunger Games’. The movie was able to garner many positive reviews from all the critics as well as the audiences. The movie is based on a thriller novel of the same name ‘The Hunger Games’, written by Suzzanne Collins. |
