Pinterest tackling the spammers

| The social networking site Pinterest is making all the efforts required to fight against spammers, who are creating fake profiles to capitalize on the advertising potential of this website. These fake users operate their accounts thorough bots, which are widely used by the spammers to carry out spamming activities on the web. Since, most of the posts published on Pinterest, which is an e-commerce and marketing site, are linked to other websites selling the items shown on this site, the spammers drive these links to advertised products by crowding out other content.
Pinterest operates like a scrapbook comprising lot of pictures about outfits, recipes, and many other things loved by the users. According to a recent revelation on The Daily Dot, a Pinterest spammer even manipulated the algorithm used to keep track of the popularity of a post, by re-pinning the same item through multiple Ids until it appeared on the ‘Popular’ tab. This enabled the spammer to get referral free from Amazon. Spamming is causing many problems for Pinterest, which is looking forward to join the league of prominent social networking site like Twitter and Facebook, and to battle it the site has made some changes in its Popularity algorithm. |
